A poem a week for 2012 - a record of a year in the life of...

Double Elvis (Ferus Type) by Andy Warhol

...Elvista...

Biting into a hot dog I tell
my mean woman aunt a blue
tale of yesterday's icons
'worth more dead than alive...'
'ain't worth more'n a can o' beans...' she drawls
shuffling into the kitchen
searching for soup
in her blue suede slippers,
drawing deep on a fag,
raiding cupboards
for an old magazine.
- Faded faces, summertime blues,
falling into a cup of tea -
solace in a mug, her mangled mind
casts back to shadowy images
of half remembered glamour;
Nudging memories of past heartbreak.
Sad eyes look up. Misty.
Dreams of walking golden stairs.
